As much as I love traveling, it’s always good to get home. There’s nothing quite like sleeping in your own bed. I also was getting pretty tired of hauling around luggage. Just between you and me, I always overpack. I think I took four pairs of pants and two shirts that I didn’t even wear.
I did a fair amount of shopping while in Portland. You wouldn’t believe the shops there. Words can’t describe their amazingness. I actually picked up so much that I had to ship a box back to my house via UPS. It’s arriving next week, so I’ll tell you about it then. I did want to take a moment today, however, to share a few home-inspired goodies with you. Sound good? A couple are vintage pieces and several can be bought online if you are interested. I’ll link them up below.
First, I’ve been a little obsessed with candles lately. When I had my gift shoppe, I never really bought candles because I sold a collection. I loved them, but I never branched out from that brand. Now the world is my candle oyster and I’m having a grand time. I love this candle called Flint. It’s from a company called Mine. Their website described it as “smoky campfire notes capturing elements of fired coals, river stone, and dry woods.” I know. It may sound strange, but there is something about it that I find so homey and warm. I bought it from a shop called Flora. You can order it online here. I found it on this site as well.
Also from Flora is this tin tray. I thought it would be perfect for holiday decorating in my new office.
The teal color matches my wall perfectly. Ir would make a great coffee table tray or it could be fun propped up on the mantel. This piece is vintage.
Next up, is this bag I bought at a shop called Canoe. I’ve been looking for a quality tote bag and this was it! It’s from the AW line by Andrea Wong. I adore the soft leather bottom, and the inside has a gorgeous blue plaid pattern. In fact, all of her bags have uniquely patterned interiors. It’s all in the details. While it’s the most I’ve ever spent on a tote bag, I expect it to last for years. You can find more about the bags or purchase one for yourself via Canoe or Andrea Wong’s site. I’m really hoping to get the backpack once it’s released.
I also found two pairs of gold scissors at West Elm. I fell in love with them the instant I saw them. Not only are they super sharp, but they are really well made. Plus, as you know, anything brass immediately catches my eye. These will definitely become part of my “on display” office accessories – pieces that are both functional and beautiful enough to be left out. You can find them here. Last, but certainly not least, is this twot-foot tall brass cat with a bow tie. Need I say more?
I know this is really odd and “ugly” to some of you, but I just couldn’t resist. I was completely charmed by him and knew he needed to come home with me. I found him at a shop called Vintage Pink. I wanted so many things from this store, but limited myself as much as possible. I just couldn’t pass up this guy. He needs a good cleaning, a quick polish, and he will fit right in. I ended up carrying him around for a good five miles in the city and all the way back to PA (hence the reason I was sick of hauling around luggage). At about 10 pounds, it was no easy task. He is vintage as well.
